A month ago, we could have simply put the entire defense here, but the Chiefs have made an impressive turnaround in the three games preceding their bye. That was outside the norm, but those situations can be the difference during the postseason. Against the Colts, they allowed four third-down conversions when Indy needed 10 or more yards. They’re in the bottom half of the league, allowing opponents to convert on third down 40.9 percent of the time. One area they could improve is third-down defense. They’ve had some uninspiring losses, but it’s tough to poke too many holes in this team. The Buccaneers are a well-rounded team that looks ready to contend for another Super Bowl berth. He limped at times in Sunday’s win, and he’s likely going to just have to manage the pain, play through it and hope he can avoid further injury. And with defensive stars Za’Darius Smith and Jaire Alexander potentially returning later this season, Rodgers’ toe is the key injury to watch. But what the last month or so has taught us is that when the Packers have Rodgers on the field, they can make a strong argument they’re the best team in the NFC. Don’t worry, we’re not going to post the photo again. What are we watching on the Packers? The state of Aaron Rodgers’ toe.

Detroit averages more than 4.6 yards per carry.

Even the winless Lions, whom the Cardinals face in Week 15, are a decent rushing team. Why are we focusing on run defense here? Because Arizona’s final three games are against strong rushing teams: the Colts (with Jonathan Taylor), the Cowboys (with Ezekiel Elliott) and the Seahawks (which will feature a run-heavy offense whether it’s working or not). Only the Vikings and Steelers are allowing more yards per rush, and according to TruMedia, the Cardinals are giving up 3.07 rushing yards after contact, the third most in the league. But when opponents do run, they are successful, with an average of 4.74 yards per attempt. Teams aren’t attacking Arizona on the ground all that often it has faced the fifth-fewest rushing attempts in the league this season. The Titans and the Eagles also each dropped five spots. Speaking of big tumbles, the Rams fell six spots and are on the verge of dropping out of the Top 10.(To be fair, the Chargers did tumble five spots, from No. But we invite Broncos fans into the comments to air their grievances after our panel had the Chargers one spot above the Broncos, despite Denver’s head-to-head win last week. The Raiders and Broncos were the biggest climbers, moving up six and five spots, respectively, after their Week 12 wins.

Arizona did receive a smaller percentage of first-place votes after its bye than it did a week ago. It wasn’t enough, however, to overtake the Cardinals for the top spot. The Packers’ win over the Rams was impressive and convinced our voters to put Green Bay ahead of the Bucs. Before we get into each team’s problem area, a few notes from this week’s voting: These rankings are a composite of votes from The Athletic’s NFL reporters and editors. Some flaws are massive and will require a major overhaul to fix in the offseason. For others, it’s a crucial injury, and things that will need to be managed in order to make the playoffs. For some teams, it’s a position group, or a roster hole. This week, Patriots beat writer Matthew Fairburn joins national writer Lindsay Jones to look at each team’s problem area. There is little separation at the top of either conference, and even the best teams are flawed. As December begins, it’s time for some tough love here at The Athletic’s NFL Power Rankings. Enough with the warm fuzzies from the Thanksgiving season.
